Geometry, Orientation and Tesslations
Room 17 really enjoyed this learning area of Maths. Take a look at all the hands on activities we got involved with.
Lava in a Cup
In this experiment we started by adding food colouring to water then we added vegetable oil to the solution. The vegetable oil floated to the top of the liquid because it was less dense than the water. Next we sprinkled salt on top of the solution and it began to form bubbles that sunk to the bottom-
this created a lava like effect. The salt was heavier than the water and the oil.
Walking on water
In this experiment below we placed coloured water (red, blue and yellow) into the plastic cup on the outside and one on the inside, leaving the two middle ones empty. We then placed pieces of kitchen roll to so that the liquid would run from the cups with water into the empty ones. After leaving it overnight the empty cups filled up with secondary colours (orange and green).
