Diwali Art

This week to celebrate the Indian culture we made Diwali art.

First we used food colouring to dye the rice.

Then we designed a Rangoli pattern onto our plates.

Lastly we stuck the rice onto our patterns.

Pet Caterpillar

Over the next couple of weeks we shall see this beautiful creature change from a caterpillar to a butterfly. We took a vote to decide whether it would turn out to be a boy or girl. Have a look at the results.

Making Gingerbread Men

For writing we have been learning about instructions and sequences. As part of that we made gingerbread men to see if we could follow the instructions step by step.

Calendar Art

Room 17's calendar art look great and I am so pleased that they will be able to share them. Whether it be by a diary, phone cover or calendar. These would make a good present for christmas.
Thanks to FOPs at Pinehill School for all their help!

This week for writing Room 17 have been focussing on making sentences more interesting by adding extra detail. Here is an example: Because my hot chocolate was too cold, I heated it in the microwave.

We have also visited Harold in the Life Education van. That was super fun we got to learn about being a good friend to others. This related to Room 17 as we have just had someone new join our classroom. Click on this picture to go to the website.

The chapter book we are reading this term is Billionaire Boy, it is a really fun read not to mention it is hilarious!

Reminder for parents this term children need to be bringing a hat to school as we are coming into summer. Many thanks!

Warren Pohatu - Art Inspiration

This year for the Pinehill art exhibition, Room 17 have chosen to produce pieces of Maori sea creature art. First it was important to study sea life pictures and then students were allowed many attempts sketching their chosen creature. Our inspiration has come from Warren Pohatu, a well-known New Zealand artist.
