This week students got to create a poster about a character they liked in the book Matilda by Roald Dahl. Not only did they have to imagine what their character looked like but also their personality traits. Take a look!

Adding in Parts
For Maths we learnt about the part-adder tool. This tool helps us to break down and simplify our sums in a new, fun and quick way.
Try using it at home with your children to practice their maths strategies.

Homework
Dear Parents,
Due to S.A.S this week there will be no homework. An important part of Sleepover At School is preparing for it. Talk with your child about what they need to pack (see the gear list), the activities timetable for Thursday and Friday. Make it fun!
I encourage you to still read with your child after school it could be a chapter book, a non fiction book, or even newspaper articles. A trip to the library could spark their love and interest for reading, get them to pick the books.

Photos of Room 17
At the moment I am encouraging Room 17 learners to bring in a favourite picture of them and their family to display on the wall. It's important to get to your children on a deeper level, I would really appreciate if you could send one to my email or have your child bring one to school.
My email is nicole@pinehill.school.nz.
The Colour Wheel
In art we are experimenting with colours and learning about the colour wheel. For this session students distinguished between warm and cool colours. Half of the class cut out warm and half cut out cool colours from magazines.

Heads or Tails?
Room 17 got to conduct their own investigation, gather data and display this into a graph.
Students had to flip a coin 50 times and record whether it landed on heads or tails. For each pair the results varied. I was very impressed with everyone's focus and enthusiasm.
Shotputting the distance
For our final Athletics session we learnt how to Shotput. It was more difficult than we initially thought but we got really good at this sport in the end. See the photos below to discover Room 17's talent. We can't wait for S.A.S!
